The Southwestern College Summer Shakespeare Festival wraps up this weekend.
Today (Friday) and tomorrow, the Popular Mexican group Eslabón Armado will perform at the Civic Theatre.
Today, the Latin American Festival & Mata Ortiz Pottery Market at Bazaar del Mundo will take place. Multilingual jazz singer Veronique Fourget will perform at Golden Island. Latin singer-songwriter Natalia Jiménez will perform at Balboa Theatre. The Bayou Brothers will perform Cajun music at Allied Gardens. Mama Mia! will be screened at the Hyatt.
Saturday and Sunday, Artwalk @ Liberty Station will happen. The Heiva Tahitian Cultural Festival will take place at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater.
Saturday, the San Diego Soul Food Fest will take place at Tierra Central on University Avenue. The Italian film Siccità (Dry) will be screened at the Firehouse Museum in Little Italy. Burkina Faso musician Adama Bilorou makes his American debut at Dizzy's on Morena Blvd. There will be a Salsa & Bachata Party at Tango del Rey. The comedy duo Hermanos de Leche will perform at the Magnolia Performing Arts Center (it appears the show will be in Spanish). Honor Norteño will perform at La Sinaloense Bar & Grill.
Sunday, the House of Italy will host their annual Lawn Program. At the Mingei, there will be a talk by storyteller Alyce Smith Cooper on the tapestry of African village life. At Torrey Pines High School, Meenal's Academy of Performing Arts and Kalāpi San Diego will present Nritya Samvaad - an Evening of Indian Dance. At the Rady Shell, you can see and hear Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Ziggy Marley. At Mic Drop Comedy, you can celebrate San Diego's Asian-American culture with an Asian Model Majority Comedy Show. The Afghan Parwana Circus in collaboration with Fern Street Circus and Aerial Revolution will give a benefit performance at the City Heights/Weingart Library Annex.
Monday, Rain, a Beatles tribute show, will take place at Humphreys.
Tuesday, the Digital Gym will screen the acclaimed Korean crime drama The Handmaiden.
Wednesday and Thursday, the Japanese anime film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind will be shown at the Angelika Film Center.
Wednesday, Warwick's will host Adrian McKinty as he discusses and signs his new book, The Detective Up Late. Sabrosas Latin Orchestra will perform at the Belly Up.
Next Thursday, Drummers Without Borders will perform at the College - Rolando Library. Finnish fusion artist Bobby Oroza will perform at the Quartyard. Warwick's will host Deepa Varadarajan as she discusses and signs her new book, Late Bloomers.
Next Friday and Saturday, a Japanese Toro Nagashi, or "floating lantern festival," will take place in Balboa Park's Japanese Friendship Garden. Comedian Martin Amini will perform two shows on Friday and another two on Saturday at Mic Drop Comedy.
Next Friday, at Koi Zen Cellars Craft Winery, there will be a Fundraiser to support child education in Kenya. The Zzymzzy Quartet will perform at the Golden Island restaurant. Three big bands, Conjunto Primavera, La Arrolladora Banda Limon, and Industria Del Amor will perform at The Sound at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Next Saturday, Filipino American punk and hardcore Aklasan Fest will be held at the Che Cafe. Sunset 360 Brazilian Celebration will take place Quartyard. There will be a Salsa & Bachata Social at Infinity Dance Sport Center. Psychedelic instrumental funk jazz trio from Tijuana Adeumazel will perform at Duck Foot Brewry.
Next Sunday, the Belly Dance SAMEDA Faire will take place at Bankers Hill Club. The House of Panama will hold their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. The heart-warming film Coco will screen at the Hyatt. Argentine reggae band Los Cafres will play at the House of Blues. Irish-American rock band The Young Dubliners will perform at the Belly Up. The Grammy-winning Gipsy Kings will be at the Rady Shell. Bloom Nightclub will host a Bollywood Party featuring Jacqueline Fernandez. Vilma Diaz and La Sonora will perform at Music Box.
Local theatrical productions include Cabaret: the Musical at the Ocean Beach Playhouse, Crime & Punishment, a Comedy at the Old Globe, and Evita opens next Wednesday at the Cygnet Theatre.
